What employers may be looking for
A company or research team may use different language from a hospital. Look for responsibilities involving testing, product safety, image analysis, software, customer support or research.
Read the duties as well as the job title. Check whether the role involves travel, work with customers or commercial responsibilities that would suit you.
Do you need HCPC registration?
A job using the protected title Clinical Scientist requires registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Research, engineering, software and product roles may have different requirements. The employer’s person specification will explain what is needed.
Clinical technologist roles
Clinical technologists have their own training and registration arrangements. If practical equipment work interests you, the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM) and the Register of Clinical Technologists explain this career route.
